Doi Suthep (lookout, temple and hike): Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Our family and another family did the Doi Suthep hike last year. I found the instructions and clear pictures on this bog very informative and helpful.

A few years back though, I took these pictures as we drove up to the temple (Wat Phra That Doi Suthep). When driving up to the temple, you can stop (on the left hand side) at this lookout of Chiangmai.

Some people would say that no trip to Chiang Mai would be complete without visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep; the spectacular Buddhist temple that can be seen, from wherever you happen to be in the city, clinging to the mountainside near the summit of Doi Suthep.

The temple is often referred to as "Doi Suthep" although this is actually the name of the mountain where it's located. It is a sacred site to many Thai people. The temple is 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the city of Chiang Mai. From the temple, impressive views of Chiang Mai can be seen.
